바림은 광주에 기반을 둔 다양한 예술장르의 작가들의 모임이자, 광주광역시에 위치한 예술공간, 미디어 공간, 작업실이다. 2013년 10월 설립, 2014년 3월 오픈하였으며, 추상적인 예술장르부터 신체적인 예술장르까지 모두 아우른다. 기존의 장르를 벗어난 예술작업, 진행성에 초점을 둔 예술작업을 통하여 예술인들과 시민의 공동체를 조성하고, 리서치를 통한 예술 교류를 지원한다. 다른 장르와의 개입 또는 초월을 통하여, 현대예술과 밀접히 맞닿아 있으려고 노력하며, 완성보다는 과정, 토론에 중점을 둔다. 광주 동구의 예술의 거리와 아시아문화전당 옆에 위치하고 있다.

BARIM is a cross-genre collective of artists who are based in Gwangju, currently an art space, media space, and working studio in Gwangju, Korea. Established in October, 2013, and opened in Spring 2014, Barim deals with abstract to physical genres of the arts. Barim aims to focus on “process-based” works beyond existing genres of the arts, to create a community of artists, local citizens, and audience, and to support cultural and artistic exchanges between local and international artists through research. It also sets a goal to intervene and transcend different genres of the arts and to focus on process and discussion rather than completion.
BARIM means a Korean traditional painting technique of shading and gradation, metaphorically blending the generic boundaries in art.
Purpose: learn and share / interdisciplinary art practice / space for work in progress / voluntary artist/research-in-residence, away from institutional approach / artistic and cultural exchange between local and international artists and researchers / intervening different genres.
